in 2017 i . . . did whole30 (and went an entire month without fast food)

Click if you want to se more items on my  2017 list . Anyone who knows me know that I. Love. Sugar. I looooove  treats and I'm also a big fan of things like bread and pasta. This is why I've always said that I think diets are stupid -- you just need to eat good food (whether that's healthy-good or unhealthy-good) in moderation! Another part of diets that I don't like is that it's usually a short-term thing that may give you results while you do it, but then you just go back to your old habits and gain the weight back, so it's not sustainable. So why did we do Whole30 -- an extremely strict "diet" -- then? So when some bloggers I follow started doing Whole30, I thought it was stupid. I got sick of seeing pics of all their Whole30 approved meals on InstaStory and pretty much I just couldn't wait for that month to be over so they would start posting stuff I cared about again. But then they published their results -- stuff about how they were feel...

hawaii part 1 {food}

for other hawaii posts: part 2 - hikes part 3 - beaches part 4 - other activities It's hard to believe that it's already been seven whole months since our trip to Hawaii. And almost harder to believe that it's taken me this long to write about it!! Before we ever went, I wrote about the  roller coaster that it was to plan this trip . Russ and I went on our honeymoon in June 2012 and a weekend trip to Vegas in February 2013, but then no us-only vacations for nearly two years. It was definitely time to have a week of romantic alone time. While we were there, we did a lot of eating, a lot of beaching, and a lot of Hawaii-specific activities. This trip was both a fun and a stressful experience for me because I did almost all of the planning. I researched things to do, Russ and I talked with friends and family about things to do, and then I planned things out for our vacation for pretty much the first time of our marriage. It was one of those "I feel like such an adu...

life lately: dates, donuts, and departing

Image
Russ and I are trying to be better about going on dates. Sometimes we're successful, sometimes we're not. And then sometimes, I think we try to over-compensate for those times when we don't go on real dates, by having one giant marathon date. A few weeks ago, we got Jimmy Johns for dinner, then went climbing at the quarry, then walked around ShopKo for a while, then got ice cream at Cold Stone, and then topped it all off with Interstellar at the dollar theater. In case you're wondering, the date was about 7 hours long. Ha! We are old married people--we don't stay up til 1am anymore! But we sure did that night. Last weekend, I caught up with my girlfriend, Kari. We met in 6th or 7th grade, became best friends, and then I moved away a year or two later. We've managed to stay good friends over the past 8 years, and hanging out with her was so fun :) We went to the Draper temple together (still checking off temples for my bucket list !). Then we went to...

5 on friday {summer fun}

Image
School's out, people! And I've already been doing lots of fun things in the past few days! Here are 5 of those things :) one.  On Tuesday, my cousin got married! In my church , the actual wedding ceremonies are very small . . . maybe like 50 people are there in all? So that usually means parents, siblings, grandparents, and aunts and uncles, with only a few spaces for friends/other people. This was the first wedding ceremony that I got invited to where I fell into the "other people" category, so it was really awesome to get to be there for his wedding! :) I don't have any pictures of the bride and groom, but I do have one of me and my groom on that day! :) Do I somehow look tan?! What a miracle . . .  two.  Between the ceremony and the luncheon, we had some time to kill, so we stopped a little boutique I just happened to see. The shop is called Madeleine L'amour  and it is Parisian-themed! And since I have a minor obsession with all things Paris, I lo...

5 on friday: {birthday edition}

Image
This week, I celebrated my birthday ! So here are 5 ways to enjoy a birthday :) one. Eat donuts for breakfast. two. Have a lunch date at Kneaders with the husband. Bonus points if you see at least three other people that you know while you are there. Bonus  bonus points if you see your boss, who proceeds to buy you a fruit tart and a Kneaders gift card! three. Eat dinner at Macaroni Grill. Do something out of the ordinary and get their amazing raspberry lemonade. Make sure you get your free dessert! four . Find the cutest guy around and spend as much of the day as possible with him. Jump for joy when his second job says he doesn't have to work that day  :) five . Watch Hitch . Snag lots of cuddles throughout the movie. Do you notice a theme to my birthday? Well don't worry--calories don't count on your birthday. I'm 99.9% sure of it ;) Happy Friday!
