big changes

A few weeks ago, I got an unexpected knock at my door. When I looked through the peep hole, I was super surprised to see my dad. I opened the door and asked what he was doing here . . . he was being all weird. My initial thoughts were that he had come to chat with me about my new business , because we've talked about doing that, but after a few minutes it was clear that was not why he had come. My dad is on the executive board of Omadi, where Russ has worked for the last four years. The night before, he had found out that Omadi was cutting back their employees by about a third, and Russ was one who was being let go. My dad had come to let me know in person. He was so sweet and kind 💕 It was a pretty big shock to both me and Russ (I texted him right after my dad left, and he officially found out about 15 minutes later). After all, we both remembered his performance review where his boss had said he was an essential employee to Omadi. However, Omadi had basically decided to c...

It is just CRAZY how life works out. One year ago, I was in the midst of hiring a sleep consultant for my baby who never took naps longer than 33 minutes. The four months leading up to hiring Pam were SUCH a huge trial for me. I felt crazy. I didn't know what to do. I felt like I was missing Ada's life because I was so preoccupied with her sleep. I couldn't think about anything  else. I could see no upsides to this awful napping! And yet, had Ada been a good sleeper, I wouldn't have needed to hire a sleep consultant. And if I hadn't hired a sleep consultant, I wouldn't have seen the life changing work that sleep consultants are capable of. And consequently, I wouldn't have had the desire or drive to become a sleep consultant myself. Not only that, but because of Ada's poor napping habits, I got into podcasts and spent a lottttt of time listening to them as I tried various things to extend Ada's naps -- podcasts that inspired me to add value t...

2018 vision journalling

2018 was the best year ever. Some of the big things I had to do to make it such an awesome year were to STOP spending so much time on social media, START concretely planning my time and activities, and CONTINUE being kind to my imperfect, human self. I got healthier than I've ever been. I found a way to enjoy my exercise and even look forward to it, so I was much more consistent with it! I exercised at least three times each week. I also decided it was finally time to eat healthier foods, so I ate mostly fruits and veggies and other whole foods, and I severely limited my sugar intake because I wanted to be really kind to my body. I still ate grains and treats occasionally, but wayyyyyyy less often than in 2017. I even had better a1C's because I tested my blood more often and paid more acute attention. Being healthier enabled me to have a fit pregnancy ! I didn't gain as much weight as I did with Ada, and I didn't have as heavy of a baby, either! I also didn...

25 dreams and desires

Image
On an episode of The Life Coach School that I recently listened to (if you haven't started listening, what are you waiting for?! ), Brooke talked about dreams and desires . There were three things that stood out to me: Adults often forget to dream. This is because as soon as we think about a possibility, our brain immediately counters with doubt. So if you say, "I'd really love to go to Italy!" Your brain will immediately ask where the money for that is going to come from. And if you don't push back against your brain, you'll just decide to give up that dream (rather than finding creative ways to get more money). You have to decide to honor your dreams/desires instead of honoring your doubts if you want to actually pursue those dreams and desires. You don't have to justify your desires to anyone else. People are always going to judge, and you can't control other people, so don't try to. Just make sure that YOU like your reasons for your desires,...
