holly b {2 years}

Stats

  • 25.0 lbs (26%), 33.12" (36%)
  • Size 4 diapers
  • Mostly wearing 24m or 2T these days
Words
At 21 months, she was saying roughly 45 words, and now she's easily saying 100+. She basically just talks a ton, though she's definitely in the stage where she needs mom and dad as translators for other people. She says sentences up to about 5 words ("What you doing daddy?" "where Ada go?" "milk please, mama")

Some of the words she started saying before I stopped taking notes:
  • Anna (from Frozen)
  • toot
  • snuggle
  • hat
  • cat
  • meow
  • pumpkin
  • sock
  • leaf
  • eye
  • panda
  • fish (sounded like "fee-ah" at first, now says "fishie")
  • I love you
  • cup
  • show
  • moon
  • ready
  • soup
  • washcloth ("Shash-sauce")
  • shower
  • Elsa
  • sleep sack
  • Weston
  • cheese
  • blueberries
  • cake
  • monkey
  • cereal
  • lid
She also likes to add -ee endings to things, like hug-ee and ice-ee.

She won't say "santa," but instead calls him "papa."

With words that end in -er, she often switches it to -en. So she'll say "showen" for "shower," "waden" for "water," and "dipen" for "diaper."

Milestones
  • two bottom molars around 22m (so 14 teeth now)

Obsessions

  • Frosty the Snowman. She loves watching it, and even singing it! She does not like when it ends.
  • Frozen. Every time it's her turn to pick the show, she says, "Elsa!" (or Frosty)
  • She's basically lost her obsession with snuggling mom. Sad day! Even if she gets hurt -- if I try to comfort her, she'll say "no!" and push me away the first time, and then usually she'll come to me or let me hold her a minute later.
  • She loves to play with the toy donuts (and other toy food if she's at Grandma's house). She just really gets a kick out of pretending to eat I guess!
  • She's also very interested in watching me cook, and she always tries to climb up on the counter or push over a chair to help me anytime she sees me cooking.
Random Tidbits

  • For a couple months, she was pretty insistent about hugging Ada multiple times before bed. It was the cutest thing ever! The girls still hug and kiss most nights, but not with quite the same level of necessity that it was for a while there.
  • When someone else is crying, she'll get all concerned and say, "Sad!" like she's identifying the person's emotion. It's so cute!
  • She really loves screaming at the top of her lungs to make her disapproval known. She uses this tactic often these days.
  • She soothes by sucking her right thumb and rubbing her nose at the same time. Usually also with her right hand, but occasionally with her left (when she's awake). She seems to give each finger a turn to rub her nose -- it's not always the same one!
  • Diaper changes are getting easier . . . sometimes. She still fights it like crazy other times 🤷 One thing that has worked frequently lately is to "change" Ada's diaper, and then Holly's. I just pretend with Ada, then she gets up, and Holly will willingly lie down. Most of the time :)
  • Eating: Lately I feel like she skips meals all the time, like she'll only have a bite or two and then not want more. She still has the weird issue of eating something just fine one day, and not eating it another day. Guess she has to be in the right mood!
  • Sleep: She's been sick, so lately she wakes around 8am, naps from 12:30-2:30/3pm, and goes to bed at 7:30pm. She falls asleep quickly for the nap (0-10 min), but takes 20-45 minutes to fall asleep most nights. When she wasn't sick, I'd say she was waking closer to 7:30am, napping from 12:30-2:30pm, and going to bed at 7:30, falling asleep by about 8.
