holly b {12 months}

Stats
  • size 3 diapers
  • size 9-12 month clothing -- she is outgrowing clothes more quickly than big sis did because her torso is so long!
  • 20.0 pounds (54%), 28.75 inches (34%)
Notable events
  • Thanksgiving trip (and REALLY long car trip) to Arizona, where she met her Holmes great grandparents. She did pretty well with the trip -- even slept at all the times she was supposed to, even in the car!
  • Her birthday party! We threw a rainbow themed party for her, which turned virtual at the last minute due to Covid exposure. She did the crawl (chose the toy doll) and cake smash for the virtual party :)
Tricks/Milestones
  • Two teeth! Both bottom teeth came in at the same time right around Thanksgiving.
  • Does a full crawl more often than the shimmy crawl now, but still sometimes does the shimmy crawl :)
  • Constantly pulling up on things, but not yet cruising.
Favorite things
  • Taking all the things out of all the places -- books, dress ups, toys, anything. Especially right after it's been cleaned up!
  • Splashing in toilets
  • Unrolling toilet paper
  • Singing "Popcorn popping" -- she almost does the little popping hands!
  • ORANGES. Girl is OBSESSED. She'll have eaten 2.5 oranges (whole cuties), and still, if she sees someone else with oranges, she'll scream and complain because she wants those oranges!
  • She loves to be on a bed, not being held. Like she wants to crawl and roll and faceplant all over the bed, but she seems to have no concept of the fact that she could fall off and get really hurt! She actually has fallen off while doing this, and though it helps her be slightly more cautious as far as not crawling too close to the edge, it doesn't help her be mindful of where she's rolling -- i have to save her all the time!
Random tidbits
  • Doesn't mind the nose frida?! Who is this kid!? Like, she doesn't sit very well for it, but she doesn't cry during or after using it!!
  • She loves animal sounds, especially a sheep sound (she even mimics it!), and she's also actually quite good at an elephant sound for her age!
  • Ada loves to make Holly laugh at dinnertime. They're so cute.
  • Ada is also really good to try to make soft or funny noises to help Holly calm down.
  • And Holly NEEDS to calm down these days, because she's such a screamer! She's pretty insistent on being picked up, like, all the time, and I tend to give in quickly.
  • Eating: We've officially weaned from all milk feeds except first thing in the morning. I nurse for maybe 2 minutes, and then I give her 2-3oz of formula mixed with whole milk (in no particular ratio). Dropping the bedtime feed was zero problem. I'm not sure if dropping the post-nap feeds is part of why she's been fussier lately, but she's definitely been fussier lately. She still eats a lot of table food, but she's kind of weird in that one day, she'll eat something just fine, and the next day, she's not interested.
  • Sleep: She's definitely undergoing sleep transitions! She started waking for 30-60 mins in the early morning hours (3-5am) (but still having great naps), so I figured it was time to add more awake time into her days so she doesn't take that awake time at night (especially since she'd cry intermittently, waking ME up 😂). I'm still working on tweaking things, because the schedule is still not as predictable as it was previously, but here it is: Wake her at 6:30am (though sometimes she wakes as early as 6), Nap from 9-10:15am (wake her), Nap 2 from 1-3pm (sometimes she only sleeps til 2ish), Bedtime 3.75 hours after nap 2 ends. Since adding those 40 minutes into her awake time (throughout the whole day), she seems crankier, like maybe she's not getting enough sleep. But I know if I let her sleep longer, the EMW will just come back, so for now, I just tough it out and try to distract her to keep her happy!
